DIY Sunday consisted of giving new life to a table Jess had in her shed. We desperately need a grand console table in the entryway of our new apartment, but it didn’t make the list of pieces we were willing to purchase new.
I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t buy any more Ikea items unless they are temporary (desk) or decorative (lamps, art). I’ve moved 5 times in the last 4 years, and each move I’ve bought new Ikea stuff because the other pieces were worn and needed to be tossed. For the same amount of money that I’ve spent re-buying Ikea over the last few years I could have bought some good stuff.
So, aside from the new furniture we bought (the grown up kind that gets delivered! That you don’t put together! woo!!) our option was craigslist and DIY. This table is well made and in great condition but the finish had seen better days.
Our solution? Sandpaper and a quart of black semi-gloss.
This is the before (and little Jess, sanding her heart out).
