it’s seems that not enough is under lock and key right now.
last week, someone charged a huge amount of money
in florida
on my credit card.
this morning, i got a frantic call from alexis.
she had been contacted, via facebook, by someone posing as katy.
“katy” told lex that she was stranded in london
had been robbed
and needed money wired.
then lex got an email (how did they get her email?)
with the wiring instructions.
katy, in real life, is in san francisco
home after a week in mexico.
it’s a scary scam
and one that i could almost see falling for.
who wouldn’t help a friend in need?
change your passwords, guard your information, friends.
it’s a big bad world out there.

This happened to my best friend Lindsey. They preyed on her generous, wonderful, cute little grandma. They knew everything about her and “Lindsey” even talked about her mom. Her grandma actually wired the money (who wouldn’t help their granddaughter, an avid traveler, “stuck on the border in Canada?”).
Thankfully her grandma called the real Linds who assured her that she was safe and sound in West Hartford, CT, and they were able to reclaim the money because it hadn’t been picked up yet. The attempted thief even called her grandma the next day to let her know that she was “safely in New York” (where the real Linds visits our best friend Michelle all the time) and to confirm the Western Union transfer. You can assume that she got an earfull. BE AWARE!
